Project 2: Applied Federated Innovation Search

Host Organisation: Department of Information & Electronic Engineering, International Hellenic University (IHU), Thessaloniki (Sindos Campus), Greece

The position in this project is no longer available.

Searchers in the patent and legal domains are usually obliged to find complete information for the topic being searched in a limited time- information that is relevant but not found could lead to litigation at a later stage. However, searching several resources and using multiple search tools and interfaces is not yet sufficiently supported making the overall task demanding and time consuming. The focus of this project will be to study frameworks for professional search systems that will allow the integrated search of multiple, physically distributed resources. The main objectives of the project will be:

  • To study search workflows performed by professionals in the patent domain.
  • To build and create a series of models and components to enable the construction of federated patent search systems that will integrate multiple search tools & interfaces
  • To provide a single-point and unified access to multiple patent sources while hiding complexity from the end user.
  • To build and evaluate a patent search system based on the federated and integrated search tools scenarios.
