Abstract

This report presents the design of the SAPIR architecture for peer-to-peer (P2P) information retrieval, specifically geared for similarity search and ranking of audiovisual content. It presents the main components, their interfaces and interplay, and their APIs for program development. Four major components are introduced. First, the Networking component defines concepts and functions for organizing overlay netw orks among peers. Second, the Content Management component provides concepts and functions for organizing feature spaces to capture audiovisual content objects. Third, the P2P Indexing component provides data structures and methods for indexing content objects at both local and global scale. Fourth, the P2P Search component defines methods for global search and ranking. The report is based on project activities of Task T2.1 and presents preliminary results of this task.
