Details

Khrystyna is currently a University Assistant and a Ph.D. Candidate at Vienna Ph.D. School of Informatics. She is also teaching Virtual Reality introductory and advanced courses.

The focus of her research is on perceptual illusions, which may be used for flexible computer-simulated multi-purpose 3D environments. Such environments are suitable for simulation, training or education, entertainment, and art.

Typically, space, where user's actions might be tracked, is limited and significantly smaller than a virtual environment. The real-world walking in virtual reality within the real world boundaries is generally referred to as redirected walking. Its aim is to allow free walking over a large-scale virtual scene without collisions with the real world barriers.

Khrystyna's research is focusing on run-time procedural generation and manipulations of the large-scale virtual layouts for unperceivable redirection within an arbitrary real workspace. In addition, she develops the methods to enlarge and diversify the VR experience by providing haptic feedback and employing various perceptual illusions.
