Abstract
This deliverable provides a description of the functionalities to be implemented in the spatial audio and 3D multi-view video codecs. In particular, it describes how the video scalability will be achieved and the type of scalability for improved network (bit-stream) adaptation is elaborated. The usage scenarios outlined in D2.1 are taken as a base when designing the scalability features as well as other functionalities and requirements. This document also discusses ways of incorporating a number of multiple-description video coding techniques within the video encoding stage. Multiple-description video coding (MDC) is considered as the primary method for maintaining the error-resilient nature of the proposed video codec system. Due to the heavy 3D multi-view load, and taking into consideration the limits of transmission bandwidth related to the P2P network protocol and the video transport protocol, methods for arranging the MDC redundancy, while maintaining acceptable 3D video quality, are discussed.
In addition, the Quality of Experience (QoE) model, which is described in D3.4, will be incorporated within the proposed codec system for better perception of 3D quality. The method for incorporating the QoE model will be discussed.
