GOOD MORNING = RIA NOVOSTI OPENS ITS NEWS CYCLE FOR MARCH 14 TS79088 * U.S.A * PRESIDENT * RUSSIAN-FEDERATION * ABM * GEORGE BUSH SATISFIED OVER RUSSIA'S READINESS TO SUPPORT EUROPEAN MISSILE DEFENCE WASHINGTON, March 14, 2001. /From RIA Novosti correspondent Arkady Orlov/. Having heard about Russia's readiness to support missile defence for Europe president George Bush of the U.S. expressed his satisfaction, said Ari Fleisher, White House press secretary. According to him, Russia's stance can prove opinion of other states on the need for creation of missile and other defence systems. That was the way president Bush understood Russia's earlier proposals on Europe's missile defence. Fleisher noted that the U.S. president still thinks that the United States should build missile defence to protect itself and its allies from the so-called rogue-states. The latter, according to the president, can pose threat to U.S. interests, should they acquire modern missile technologies. The press secretary said the U.S. missile defence plans are aimed at repelling aggression all over the world. The president thinks it is necessary to do against the backdrop of proliferation of weapons and nuclear technologies and new threats to the United States and its allies.
