RUSSIA MAY ANNUALLY LOSE $250-300 MILLION OF EXPORT REVENUES FROM EU ENLARGEMENT /MOSCOW, March 13, 2001 /RIA Novosti/-- Russia may annually lose up to $250-300 million of export proceeds from the EU enlargement after the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the former COMECON member states, join the EU, say experts of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. In this case, Russian export's indirect losses will far exceed direct ones. As the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has repeatedly said, the losses will result from the commitments by the new EU member states to comply with the Russian export restrictions currently effective in the European Union. The impact of the EU enlargement on mutual trade with Russia is the topic of constant discussion during Russian-European consultations at various level. Russia also discusses these issues with the states aspiring for EU membership. (fed/nag)
