LARGE TERRORIST ACT THWARTED IN CHECHNYA PYATIGORSK, March 12, 2001. /From RIA Novosti correspondent Edgar Saroyan/. A large terrorist act has been thwarted in Chechnya -- a plastic explosive has been defused there. Spokesmen for the press service of the Department for the Fight against Organised Crime in the North Caucasus have informed RIA Novosti that the explosive and a fuse weighed a total of 30 kilograms. The bomb was laid on a roadside near the hamlet of Roshni-Chu of the Urus-Martan district. A version has been proposed that the powerful explosive should have hit a military column.
