MILITANT SETTING LAND MINE ARRESTED IN CHECHNYA MOSCOW, March 12, 2001. /From RIA Novosti correspondent Gennady Lisenkov/. A spokesman for the press service of the Russian Federal Security Service reported to RIA Novosti today that an activist of illegal armed formations was arrested and another militant killed in an attempt to set a radio-controlled land mine in the Leninsky district of Grozny, capital of Chechnya, on Sunday. The press service spokesman noted that over the past few days several militants had been apprehended on Chechen territory, including activists from Basayev's closest accomplices. On March 9 V. Mezhidov, an active member of illegal armed formations, was detained in Gudermes. He has long been on a federal wanted list. A gang of seven was arrested in Chechnya's Naursky district. The criminals committed several crimes in the Stavropol and Krasnodar territories. All the seven have been federally wanted, too, the Federal Security Service spokesman said.
