PROSECUTORS INVESTIGATE SERIES OF MURDERS OF RUSSIANS IN CHECHNYA MOSCOW, MARCH 11, 2001 /RIA NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT/ -- Chechen prosecutors are investigating a series of vicious murders of Russian families living in Chechnya. According to Prosecutor General Vsevolod Chernov of Chechnya, of late several Russian families, including little children, were killed by Chechen thugs. Thus, a brutal crime was committed in the Leninsky district of Grozny in the early hours of March 10. Two minor Russian girls were killed and one heavily wounded. A number of similar crimes have been committed already this year in other regions of the republic as well. Criminal cases have been opened, which, according to the prosecutor, are under his personal control. The Prosecutor also noted that certain forces in Chechnya are trying to thwart peace restoration and spare no effort to destabilise the situation. The Chechen prosecutor's office will respond by intensified activities with a view to spotting and punishing criminals, stressed Chernov. Notably, so-called organizations for human rights in Russia and the West alike, who never miss the opportunity to make a mess of human rights abuse in Chechnya on behalf of the federal forces, are keeping silent about these facts.
