UN WARNS OF GLOBAL THREAT OF MAD COW DISEASE MOSCOW, March 11. /From a RIA Novosti correspondent/. The UN Food and Agricultural Programme has warned the world public and specialists of the global threat of spread of mad cow disease, general director of the Russian National Fund of Protection of Consumers Alexander Kalinin told RIA Novosti. According to him, the danger of spread of this disease now exists not only in the European countries but also in Asia, the Middle East and Northern Africa. By the Fund's information, more than fifteen states have already imposed moratorium on import of beef from the countries where seats of mad cow disease have been registered. Their list includes Great Britain, France, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. Mad cow disease which was registered for the first time in Great Britain 6.5 years ago affects cows over 30 months of age. It is mortally dangerous to man.
