TAJIKISTAN HOSTS FAIR FOR RESIDENTS OF DISTRICTS NEIGHBOURING ON AFGHANISTAN DUSHANBE, March 11, 2001. /From RIA Novosti correspondent Nazhmidin Azizov/. On Saturday the local authorities and clerics in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan organised a fair for residents of frontier districts of this republic and Afghanistan. Visitors to the fair were offered such necessities as grain, agroproducts, kerosine, diesel fuel, cigarettes, salt, leather and wool. Russian borderguards on duty at this sector of the Tajik-Afghani border were providing access to the trading place and security for participants in the fair. According to local authorities, organised cross-border trade restrains smuggling.
