IRANIAN, TAJIK DEFENSE MINISTERS TALK TIES DUSHANBE, March 9, 2001 /Nazhmidin Azizov, RIA Novosti Correspondent/ -- Defense Minister of Tajikistan, Colonel General Sherali Khairullayev, negotiated forging closer ties and discussed the situation in Afghanistan with his Iranian counterpart, Vice Admiral Ali Shamkhani, who arrived in Dushanbe Friday on a first official visit. Iranian Embassy sources disclosed that problems of implementing the military-technical agreements the two countries signed 4 years ago were also on the agenda. The Iranian Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics met Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov and Foreign Minister Tolbak Nazarov. Tajik Defense Ministry press center has announced that the two defense ministers will sign a protocol on intent in the sphere of military and military-technical cooperation after the talks close.
