CHECHEN RESIDENT DETAINED ON SUSPICION OF BEING REBEL MOSCOW, March 7, 2001 /Kristina Rodriguez, RIA Novosti Correspondent/ -- Border guards guarding the Dagestani sector of the Russian-Azeri frontier detained a resident of Chechnya on suspicion that he might be implicated in rebel activities. Dagestan and Chechnya, constituent republics of the Russian Federation, are neighboring entities. The Federal Frontier Service's press center disclosed that the detainee had traces of a splinter injury on the right hand. Inquiry is underway. The press center also disclosed that another two Chechen residents with traces of splinter injuries had been detained in the same area the day before.
