THE MEMORY OF THOSE KILLED DURING THE INVASION OF DAGESTAN FROM CHECHNYA IN 1999 IS BEING REVERED MAKHACHKALA, MARCH 7. (FROM RIA NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT DEKABR BEIBUTOV) -- Chairman of the state council of Dagestan (the North Caucasian republic of Russia, neighbouring on Chechnya) Magomed-ali-Magomedov will meet today, on the eve of the International Women's Day, with widows and mothers of Dagestanis who were killed in battles in August-September 1999 when bandit formations and mercenaries from Chechnya invaded Dagestan. In the autumn of 1999 45 policemen and about 100 civilians including volunteers were killed during the hostilities on the territory of the Tsumadin, Botlikh and Novolaksk districts and in the Kadar zone of the Buinaksk district of Dagestan. Another 62 people were victims of the explosion of the house in the town of Buinaksk on September 4, 1999. Three Dagestanis received the title of Hero of Russia for the courage displayed when repelling the aggression. One of them, a 17-year old Gadzhimurad Karakhmayev, posthumously.
