THE PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA IS GOING TO PARIS FOR NEGOTIATIONS ON THE NAGORNY KARABAKH CONFLICT YEREVAN, March 4. /RIA Novosti correspondent Avet Demuryan/. President Robert Kocharyan of Armenia is going today to Paris where he will conduct negotiations with the head of Azerbaijan, Geidar Aliyev, on settling the Nagorny Karabakh conflict, RIA Novosti was told in the press service of the Armenian President. In the course of the negotiations, Robert Kocharyan and Geidar Aliyev, just as at the previous talks, will try to come to an agreement concerning the principles of the solution of the conflict. The Armenian leadership hopes for some progress in the peaceful solution of the Nagorny-Karabakh conflict at the negotiations in Paris. This was said earlier by Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan. According to him, up to now, Robert Kocharyan and Geidar Aliyev discussed very important and basic principles of the solution of the Karabakh problem. "In case of achieving agreement on these principles, they may turn into a certain document which can serve as a basis for further negotiations," pointed out the minister. At the sane time he underscored that it is prematurely to talk about a new variant of a peaceful settlement of the Nagorny Karabakh conflict at the initiative of French President Jacques Chirac. "We believe that Geidar Aliyev preserves adherence to the peaceful solution of the Karabakh conflict, and therefore he will meet with the Armenian President in Paris," said Vardan Oskanyan. -O- (kos/ter) 04/03/01 12:01
