"FLAMENCO QUEEN" DANCES IN KREMLIN MOSCOW, 3 March 2001. /From RIA Novosti correspondent Katerina Komarova/. Christina Hoyos, a famous Spanish actress, choreographer, stage director and flamenco dancer, has arrived in Russia to perform in Moscow. The "Queen of Flamenco" will appear on the stage of the State Kremlin Palace together with her own group of Spanish ballet dancers on Saturday and Sunday. The passionate Iberians will treat the Moscow audience to their spirited The Rhythms of the Time performance. Christina Hoyos comes from Andalusia, the homeland of flamenco dancing. No wonder that she was brought up on the highly emotional flamenco culture. She staged her own ballet Flamenco Dreams which has had an exceptional worldwide success and won her Britain's chief theatrical award - the Lawrence Olivier Prize. Years of experience have enabled Christina Hoyos to complement her passionate expressiveness and unique sense of rhythm with virtuoso dancing technique. A great admirer of the centuries-old tradition, she nevertheless has managed to replenish the old art of flamenco dancing with her trademark modern style and variation. Hoyos does not dance to impress the audience, she dances for her own heart's content as if in response to her great compatriot Federico Garcia Lorca's appeal: "Dance for the people tete-a-tete with yourself".
