RUSSIA BANS PORK IMPORTS FROM GREAT BRITAIN MOSCOW, March 2, 2001. /RIA Novosti correspondent Alexander Shishlo/ -- The Russian veterinary service has banned pork imports from Great Britain, RIA Novosti was told in the Russian Ministry of Agriculture. Beginning with February 22, pork imports from Great Britain have been temporarily stopped because of the increasing foot and mouth disease cases among pigs in that country. Russian vets asked their British colleagues to urgently supply them with official data about the mass disease of the animals. Beginning with the 1990s, a full ban on beef imports from Great Britain has been in force in Russia. -O- (kos/kri) 02/03/01 14:09
