THE RUSSIAN AIRCRAFT INDUSTRY HAS RECEIVED A BIG ORDER MOSCOW, March 1, 2001 /from RIA Novosti correspondent Eduard Puzyrev/ -- The Russian aircraft industry receives the biggest order since the time of the start of market reforms in Russia; its cost tops 450 million dollars, said director general of the Russian Atlant-Soyuz aviation company Stanislav Leichenko. The Atlant-Soyuz aviation company will take on lease ten new Il-96-400-T and four Tu-240S planes. With this aim in view it has signed an appropriate framework agreement with the Russian leasing company Ilyushin-Finance Co. "This deal can be called without exaggeration a contract of the decade," said Stanislav Leichenko. He pointed out that this contract is an example of concrete assistance to the Russian aircraft industry, and that the implementation of the agreement can be a good start for reviving this Russian industry. The planes will be made at the aviation plants in Voronezh (Central Russia) and in Ulyanovsk (Volga region). They will be equipped with Russian PS-90A engines and Russian avionics.
