VLADIMIR PUTIN ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT OF COOPERATION BETWEEN RUSSIA AND VIETNAM IN NEW CONDITIONS HANOI, MARCH 1, 2001 (FROM RIA NOVOSTI SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT MARIANNA SHATIKHINA) -- Russian president Vladimir Putin said at a press conference in Hanoi that it would be inexcusable to lose the high level of mutual relations which existed between the USSR and Vietnam. He also pointed out that the wide interaction between our countries in the time of the Soviet Union was not dictated by ideological considerations. It was based on deep long-term interests of the countries, Vladimir Putin stressed. The head of the Russian state pointed to the need of supporting and developing mutually advantageous cooperation in new conditions under which Russia and Vietnam live now and in accordance with the new international reality.
