RUSSIAN SENATORS APPROVE OF THE TEXT OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEM








MOSCOW, March 14, 2001. /From RIA Novosti correspondent Nikolai Venediktov/. The Federation Council (Upper Chamber of the Russian Parliament) has approved the text of Russia's national anthem set to words by Sergei Mikhalkov, the 87-years old poet has written the text to the anthem of the former USSR.


	Altogether 141 senators voted for that decision, and one was against it.


	It should be noted that since there was no quorum the voting was nonetheless held by agreement.
