DAGHESTAN: BANDIT TAKES HOSTAGES IN ROADSIDE CAFE, WON'T COOPERATE MAKHACHKALA, MARCH 13 (from RIA Novosti's Dekabr Beibutov) - A bandit took hostages in the Paris, a roadside cafe in Daghestan's Khasavyurt district. He has not presented any demands, and is loath to enter talks. The unidentified man is alone, and has a hand-grenade. He is holding hostage a woman client and the entire cafe staff--the police do not know how many, reports the district officer on duty. The Paris, on a highway which links Khasavyurt with Kizlyar via Aksai and Babayurt, is close to Osmanyurt village, with a large ethnic Chechen community.
