RUSSIA TO DISPLAY AT ONE OF MAJOR ARMS EXHIBITIONS IDEX-2001 ABU DHABI, March 11, 2001. /RIA Novosti correspondent Igor Kuznetsov/. More than 800 companies from 42 countries are to attend one of the largest international arms exhibitions - Idex-2001, which will be open at the capital of the United Arab Emirates from March 18 to 22. Russia, a traditional Idex exhibitor since 1993, will be represented by 50 companies, designs offices, and defence plants, Brigadier General Sultan al-Suweidi, chairman of the exhibition's organising committee, told journalists on Sunday. Among first-comers are Kazakhstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil and Ireland. Idex, according to the General, is going for the fifth time to assert its reputation as an all-embracing exhibition of all classes of armament with the exception of air force. The displays will include 13 vessels from 7 countries, including a Pakistani submarine. Visitors to Idex will be shown seventeen combat vehicles from 9 states, with 13 systems from 11 countries to engage in demonstration live practice shooting.
