CHUBAIS ADVOCATES CONSTRUCTION OF NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS MOSCOW, March 1. /From RIA Novosti correspondent Natalia Shmonova/. Anatoly Chubais, board chairman of Unified Energy Systems Co., Russia's electricity giant, advocates construction of nuclear power plants in Russia. He said that as meeting with the European Union countries' ambassadors to Russia and spokesmen for major European companies. However, Chubais does not think that the Russian Energy Ministry's plan to build 10-15 new nuclear power plants in the near future can be implemented. He admitted that nuclear power plants should be built but noted that the cost of the commissioning of one kWt of a nuclear power plant according to a full investment cycle does not appear to be competitive as compared to vapour and gas power plants. As of today, electric power produced by 9 nuclear power plants make 14 percent of the country's total electricity output, said Chubais.
