UPPER HOUSE OF THE PARLIAMENT OF RUSSIA RATIFIED CONTRACTS WITH TADSHIKISTAN AND USBEKISTAN MOSCOW, 14 March. / RIA "Nowosti" rIA-"Nowosti"-Korrespondent Nikolai Wenediktow /. the federation council (upper house of the parliament of Russia) ratified the contract with Tadshikistan over status and conditions of the stay of the Russian military base on the territory of this republic. The present Treaty had been signed by the Secretaries of Defense of the two countries on 16 April 1999 in Moscow and reglementiert the stay of the Russian military base on the territory Tadshikistans. Like Vladimir Kulakow, deputy chairmen of the upper house committee for security and defense, stressed, the entry into force of this document to the reinforcement of the positions of Russia in the strategically important centralasiatic region and to the maintenance of the peace and stability in this region will contribute. On the same day the federation council ratified the contract with Usbekistan over further recess of all-round co-operation in the military and military-technical area. That is a basic agreement, which creates the legal basis for common efforts around a broad spectrum of questions: among other things maintenance of regional security, fight against the international terrorism and co-ordinated policy in the area of the material-technical sicherstellung of the armed forces of the two countries.
