DIRECTOR THE NATIONAL ERMITAGE CONDEMNED DESTRUCTION BUDDHAS STATUES

MOSCOW, 5 March.  / Nikolai Walkowski, korrespondent of the RIA "
Nowosti " /. Mikhail Piotrowski, director of the national Ermitage,
the largest museum of Russia, condemned sharply the actions of the
Taliban, which destroy cultural monuments of the before-Islamic time
in Afghanistan.

" the destruction of the sculptures Buddhas in Afganistan is the most
negative form of the printout of the religious Fanatismus ", explained
Mikhail Piotrowski in an interview for the RIA " Nowosti ".

It referred particularly to the fact that not monuments are destroyed
absolutely, but thes subject of the oldest religion, which can have
absolutely unpredictable consequences for whole mankind.
