BELORUSSIA: ONE OF THE SAFEST PLACES IN THE WORLD MINSK, MARCH 14, RIA NOVOSTI'S OLESYA LUCHANINOVA - Belorussia was described today by President Alexander Lukashenko as one of the safest places in the world, when he addressed a session of police and security chiefs on the performance of the presidential order to consolidate law, order and stability in the country. "With merely 1,300 offences per 10,000 population, we have avoided internal bloodshed, criminal in-fighting and the transformation of organised crime into a political force," said Lukashenko. He nevertheless urged still better results in crime-combating because, in his opinion, residents do not receive protection they reckon on.
