TEN ARMED TRANSGRESSORS ARRESTED ON TAJIK-AFGHAN BORDER DUSHANBE, March 14, 2001. /From a RIA Novosti correspondent/. Ten Tajik border transgressors were destroyed on Tuesday in the responsibility zone of Moscow border detachment. According to the press service of Russia's Frontier Service /FPS/ in Tajikistan, late on March 13 Russian borderguards detected a group of armed people who were trying to get from Afghanistan to Tajikistan by crossing the river on rubber tubes. The federals demanded that they lay down arms and stop moving. In response, trespassers opened fire at the borderguards, who engaged a battle with them and finished by destroying the transgressors. No casualties have been reported among federals. Over 180 kg of heroin and two Kalashnikovs were found and confiscated on the site of the clash. According to the FPS press service, Russian borderguards have confiscated some 750 kg of drugs, including over 14 kg of heroin on the Tajik-Afghan border since the beginning of 2001.
