AMBER CONTRABAND ON THE RISE ST PETERSBURG, March 13 /from RIA Novosti's Svetlana Chikirova/ - More than 130 kilogrammes of amber was seized last week by customs officials of the North-Western region, reports the press-service of the North-Western customs department. A citizen of Russia entering Lithuania from the Kaliningrad region (a Russian enclave on the Baltic Sea) tried to smuggle in 130 kilogrammes of small amber fragments hidden in the car and tires. Another Russian citizen, entering Lithuania on private business, was caught hiding in his body belt 30 amber objects. Two Russian citizens, travelling to Poland, had in their elastic belts more than 4 kilogrammes of amber. It was noted at the regional customs department that amber contraband from the Kaliningrad region into Europe has been on the rise lately.
