PRESIDENT OF LITHUANIA TO DISCUSS ECONOMIC MATTERS WITH RUSSIAN TOP RIGA, March 12 /from RIA Novosti's Anatoly Baranovsky/ - At his negotiations with President Vladimir Putin, to take place in Moscow at the end of March, President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus plans to pay particular attention to economic matters. The Lithuanian leader said he would talk about specific bilateral economic agreements, in particular on double taxation and cargo transportation. In an interview published Monday in the Neatkariga newspaper, Adamkus did not rule out that at his forthcoming negotiations in Moscow, the sides would touch upon issues related to the intention of Lithuania to join the European Union and NATO. Adamkus emphasized that he saw the establishment of good relations with Russia as an important objective of Lithuania's foreign policy. According to him, there are presently no political problems in Russian-Lithuanian relations and cooperation established between Lithuania and the Kaliningrad region proves that "the rather unpleasant experience of the last 50 years has had no systemic effect" on the relations between the two neighbours. "We are looking into the future, not into the past," Adamkus emphasized. The visit of the Lithuanian President to Moscow is scheduled for March 29 to 31.
