SPANISH COMPANY PLANS TO CUT OFF ELECTRICITY FROM PLANTS IN MOLDOVAN CAPITAL CHISINAU, March 12, 2001. /From RIA Novosti correspondent Georgy Stoilik/. Effective this day Union Fenosa, a Spanish company which runs the power grid in Moldova's capital wants to cut off electricity from plants which supply Chisinau with heat, water and light. The reason is over 10 million dollar debts which municipal units owe to the company. For the same reason, effective March 13 the company plans to start rolling cut-offs of city trolley-bus lines. If so, all trolley-bus lines will lie dead in Chisinau starting from March 17. At the same time Union Fenosa will revise the decision, should the municipal units settle their debts before the end of May, paying them off on a weekly basis. The company's leadership is ready to consider the option which provides the government or city authorities to set forth guarantees on debt repayment.
