POLICE PROMISE TO DISPERSE FUTURE UKRAINE WITHOUT KUCHMA RALLIES KIEV, MARCH 11 /FROM RIA NOVOSTI'S VIKTOR DEMIDENKO/ - The Ukrainian police may use special means of protection in case participants in the Ukraine Without Kuchma movement stage another rally. Anyway, the use of firearms will be banned, Ukrainian First Deputy Interior Minister Nikolai Dzhiga told journalists on Sunday. Assessing the March 9 events in Kiev, he stressed that the law-enforcement bodies acted strictly within the law, taking a defensive stance. The police will act correspondingly if similar events are held, he added. Nikolai Dzhiga said that the 105 participants in the Ukraine Without Kuchma protest who were apprehended Friday during unrest outside the residence of the Ukrainian head of state have been released by now. Administrative measures, such as fines for violating public order, will be applied to them, he said. Nikolai Dzhiga said that files on 23 other persons are presently under court hearings. Seventy-three participants in the protest action are still held in custody.
