EUROPEAN UNION CONDEMNS ALBANIAN EXTREMISTS' ATTACKS ON MACEDONIAN BORDER BRUSSELS, March 10, 2001. /from RIA Novosti correspondent Viktor Onuchko/--The RIA Novosti correspondent reports that the European Union has published in Brussels a statement reading that the European Union believes that stability in Macedonia "is of fundamental importance for the future development of the whole region," and that is why the EU "re-condemns the recent attacks of extremist-minded ethnic Albanians" on the border between Macedonia and Kosovo. On March 9 the EU committee for policy and security discussed with Macedonian Foreign Minister Srdjan Kerim a plan of the Macedonian government on measures aimed to stop the violence and strengthen stability on the border with Yugoslavia. The plan was submitted to the UN Security Council on March 7, the statement reads. The European Union supports the policy prosecuted by the Macedonian government which sticks to a proportionate scale of measures and maintains the politic stability in the country by means of cooperation between all ethnic communities. The EU hails the all-expanding contacts of Macedonia with KFOR and the UN mission in Kosovo. At the same time the European Union favours the activities KFOR carried out in the current developments. The European Union calls for all the countries neighbouring on Macedonia and international organisations operating in the region to consider what measures they could offer to maintain stability there.
