UN REPRESENTATIVE FOR SUPPRESSING ALBANIAN EXTREMISTS ON MACEDONIAN BORDER VIENNA, March 10, 2001. /from RIA Novosti correspondent Borislav Pechnikov/--Albanian extremists want to create an "armed precedent" for the proclamation of the independence of Kosovo. Such actions should be "suppressed energetically and with the use of armed forces," high representative of the UNO to Bosnia and Herzegovina Austrian Ambassador Wolfgang Petric told the press in Vienna today. The RIA Novosti correspondent has quoted the Ambassador as saying that the main reason for the crisis which had so far turned into armed clashes between Macedonian borderguards and Albanian extremists was the indefinite status of Kosovo. Petric noted that it was necessary to reach an international consensus on the status of this Yugoslavian territory as soon as possible.
