POLICE GENERAL BOOBY TRAPPED IN DOWNTOWN GROZNY STAVROPOL, March 9, 2001 /Valeri Oliyanchuk, RIA Novosti Correspondent/ -- Deputy Chief of the Interior Ministry's Stavropol Territory General Headquarters, Police Major General Nikolai Revenko, was injured in a mine blast in downtown Grozny, Deputy Chief of the Stavropol Territory Interior Ministry Headquarters, Police Colonel Pavel Likhoman, revealed on Friday. General Revenko triggered a contact fuse mine last Wednesday. He has undergone surgery and doctors evaluate his state as stable. Commander of the Stavropol OMON riot police force, Colonel Nikolai Pykhtin, was mildly concussed in the explosion. Senior Stavropol police officers routinely travel to the Chechen Republic to inspect the service of task forces deployed there to assist local law-enforcement agencies to maintain law and order and ensure security. General Nikolai Revenko was in Chechnya with a similar mission. Also, he had brought, as previously, humanitarian aid along to Grozny.
