NEW BAIL HEARING SCHEDULED FOR BORODIN IN NEW YORK NEW YORK CITY, March 9, 2001 /RIA Novosti/ -- On March 9, the Brooklyn Federal District Court is set to hear once again a plea for bailing out Secretary of State of the Union State of Russia and Belarus Pavel Borodin. "We expect a favorable outcome," Barry Kingham, Borodin's principal lawyer, told RIA Novosti before the hearing. "The papers we have submitted to the court expose the case in the best way. Everything has been worked out in detail. We have logically cited a series of well-known precedents." Barry Kingham reminded that, along with the memorandum, the defense had filed a number of statements by senior Russian and Belarussian officials, including Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov and Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko. "We expect them to work," the lawyer added. "Our file as a whole is irrefutable evidence that the governments of both countries and the Union State need Borodin to return urgently". In case of a positive court ruling, "Borodin won't likely go free right away," Kingham pointed out. "We'd need to get some paperwork in order. He would probably be released only on Monday". The attorney did not elaborate the steps the defense would take in case the bail is not granted.
