MONGOL BUDDHISTS AGAINST DESTRUCTION OF BUDDHIST MONUMENTS IN AFGHANISTAN ULAN BATOR, MARCH 7. /RIA NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT ALEXANDER ALTMAN/ -- Buddhists of Mongolia demand to discontinue destruction of ancient monuments of Buddhist religion in Afghanistan. This is said in an appeal by the Mongol Buddhist Center -- the Gandantegchilen monastery -- to the United Nations, UNESCO and the Talib government in Afghanistan. This appeal says that, by mercilessly destroying priceless historical monuments Talibs are committing an act of vandalism. These acts are met with indignation by the world community, including the Mongol people, who for centuries have been worshipping Buddha. Mongolia's Buddhists on behalf of all believers of their country demand immediately to end the barbarous act, stresses the Buddhist appeal.
