ZHIVILO FILE SENT TO FRANCE MOSCOW, MARCH 7, 2001, /RIA-NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT/ -- The Russian Prosecutor-General's Office has sent all the materials, which are needed to extradite business tycoon Mikhail Zhivilo, to France via diplomatic channels today. This was disclosed to RIA-NOVOSTI at the Prosecutor-General's Office. According to its information and public-relations department, the Zhivilo file includes French-language copies of legal documents on instituting criminal proceedings against Zhivilo, on choosing the relevant preventive-punishment option, on issuing a warrant for Zhivilo's arrest, as well as requests concerning his extradition. MIKOM chief executive officer Mikhail Zhivilo, who is wanted by Russia's federal police and Interpol alike, was detained in Paris February 22, 2001 at the request of Russia's national central Interpol bureau. The well-known Russian businessman was charged with "attempting on the life of a statesman of public figure", to quote the Russian Criminal Code. Olympic biathlon champion Alexander Tikhonov and his brother Viktor are also charged with masterminding an attempt on the life of Kemerovo-region governor Aman Tuleyev.
