RUSSIA REGISTERS 1.5 MILLION ILLEGAL MIGRANTS MOSCOW, March 7, 2001. /from RIA Novosti correspondent Alexander Shishlo/--There are some 1.5 million illegal migrants on the territory of the Russian Federation. Such data came from the Ministry for Federal Affairs, National and Migration Policy as a comment on the presidential instruction for the government to elaborate measures to stop illegal migration to Russia. According to the data from the Ministry over 8 million people came to Russia from former Soviet republics over the past ten years. The Russian Federation annually registers some 250 thousand people attracted as manpower force from overseas countries. In the course of a Kremlin meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov today Vladimir Putin instructed the government to elaborate by June 1 measures to thwart illegal migration to this country.
