UN CONSIDERS SITUATION IN KOSOVO SECTOR OF YUGOSLAV-MACEDONIAN BORDER MOSCOW, MARCH 7, 2001 /FROM RIA NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT ANNA BOBINA/ -- The UN Security Council has gathered in New York to urgently consider the situation in the Kosovo sector of the Yugoslav-Macedonian border, said official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Aleksander Yakovenko. In his words, Russia supported Macedonia's plea and expressed willingness to take necessary measures with UN assistance with a view to preventing escalation of tension in the region. Yakovenko said that the session was discussing international efforts to counteract extremism and prevent destabilisation of the situation in Macedonia. It is no secret that after the recent incident on the Yugoslav-Macedonian border, the UN Security Council has already voiced its concerns and demanded that all provocations be urgently thwarted. The situation around Kosovo is the focus of the UN Security Council's attention and its sessions.
