WEST DOESN'T QUITE SEE WHAT'S GOING ON IN CHECHNYA, REGRETS PUTIN MOSCOW, March 6. /RIA Novosti/. The West does not yet properly realise what is going on in Chechnya and other parts of the North Caucasus. President Vladimir Putin came to the conclusion from questions asked him during today's internet interview. The Russian army, and the nation as a whole have never waged a campaign against Chechens. As it really was, the army answered a challenge made by extremists and international terrorists as they attacked Daghestan. The federal army aims to save Chechens from terrorists who came to the top in the republic to cast a shadow on Islam and Chechens by attacking neighbouring areas, pointed out the President. When asked about spendings on the efforts to call Chechnya to order, Mr. Putin replied that "money and resources proper are not definitive for the economy", unlike terms offered by the state to the economy and its ability to guarantee compliance with those terms. Vladimir Putin called the international community to join hands with Russia in combat against extremism and terrorism, which present one of the basic contemporary problems. "Then, Russia, the entire Europe and the whole world will enjoy order, wellbeing and progress," he said.
