POWER LOWERED AT SMOLENSK NUCLEAR POWER PLANT DUE TO MALFUNCTION








MOSCOW, March 6. /RIA Novosti/. Power output was halved at power unit 2 of the Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant due to a discovered malfunction.


	The Rosenergoatom nuclear agency said repairs were underway.


	Radiation background remains normal at and around the power plant, not exceeding the natural level. The level is consistent with the radiation level found with the power units operating in a normal mode, Rosenergoatom pointed out.
