MANKIND'S HISTORY UNIMAGINABLE WITHOUT MIKHAIL GORBACHEV -- EDUARD SHEVARDNADZE TBILISI, MARCH 5, RIA NOVOSTI -- The history of mankind can hardly be imagined without Mikhail Gorbachev and his perestroika, said Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze in an interview with National Radio. "Too much is linking Mikhail Gorbachev and me: those were unforgettable years, which changed the world", said Shevardnadze. He was the foreign minister of the Soviet Union at a time when Mikhail Gorbachev headed the political leadership of the former USSR. According to the Georgian president, perestroika virtually changed the world and Gorbachev with his co-thinkers contributed a lot to that. "United Europe became a reality, as did the relations of non-confrontation with our Western partners", said Shevardnadze. But relations between Russia and Georgia during the presidentship of Shevardnadze have been finally spoiled, very much due to the position of Tbilisi. It is conducting an anti-Russian policy in connivance of the subversive activities against Russia by Chechen separatists, which have found refuge in Georgia.
