KUZBAS HAS MORE THAN 60 ECOLOGICALLY UNSAFE SITES KEMEROVO, March 3. /RIA Novosti correspondent Natalya Reshetnikova/. To date the Kuzbass (a mining area in southern Siberia) has more than 60 ecologically unsafe sites and 900 more that are of a potential danger. Such statistics were unveiled in the regional administration at a conference on urgent measures to ensure ecological safety in the region. Among the most "dangerous sites" specialists include ownerless water reservoirs, ponds and structurally unsafe hydro-engineering structures, fuel and lubricant depots, and accumulated gold mining waste. They pose particular risks ahead of spring floods.
