IVANOV INVITES CE MISSION TO VISIT CHECHNYA MOSCOW, MARCH 3, 2001. /RIA Novosti correspondent Pyotr Goncharov/ -- The President and other leaders of Russia are sure that the problems existing in Chechnya will be solved in the interests of the people and the country as a whole, Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said at his meeting with Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner Alvaro Gil-Robles today. There are many unsolved problems in Chechnya. But, as Mr. Robles could see for himself, the Russian leadership does the utmost to solve them, Ivanov went on. Opportunities are being held out for cooperation with international organizations that are prepared to help in the restoration of the Chechen republic. Ivanov has invited an OSCE mission to visit Chechnya, as this is necessary for an unbiased appraisal of the situation there. "I want to say once again that there are no obstacles on the Russian side for a trip by the mission to this region," Ivanov stressed. He admitted the possibility of some "technical issues" which should be settled in the process of communication with federal authorities. Vladimir Kalamanov, special human rights envoy of the Russian President in Chechnya, takes part in the negotiations between Ivanov and Robles.
