VOLUNTEERS TO DEFEND MILOSEVIC RESIDENCE ROUND THE CLOCK BELGRADE, March 1. /RIA Novosti's correspondent Alexander Slabynko/. Approximately 50 sympathizers of ex-Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic gathered on Thursday outside his residence in a prime location in Belgrade. They are going to organise round-the-clock "popular patrols" and prevent his possible arrest. The RIA Novosti correspondent reports that one of the organizers of the manifestation, Sinisa Vucinic, told reporters it would not be an act of protest but popular protection of the ex-president from arrest and "trumped-up political trial". Vucinic called on the relative organs not engage in "unneeded work and not play with the Balkan powder keg". Otherwise, "a response by all available means" will follow because the present regime may provoke a civil war, Vucinic stressed. "Anything may happen", he warned. Earlier, sources in the democratic opposition of Serbia told the BETA news agency that March 10 has been set as the deadline for arrest of Slobodan Milosevic.
