PetaMedia is a Network Of Excellence, collaborative effort funded by the European Commission, that has entered its last year of activity in 2011. The impact of the NoE, however, is intended to last beyond the project lifetime—the Virtual Centre of Excellence (VCE) will continue to boost research, education, and development in the field of the PetaMedia triple synergy.
The PetaMedia NoE has successfully accomplished a number of events and participations, e. g. the third Technology Integration Meeting, the MediaEval workshop, and several activities at the ACM Multimedia conference. Currently, the VCE is being planned with emphasis on securing the initial phase. Further activities include planning and specification of the field trials and organiza- tion of the next S3MR summer school and a special session at ICMR 2011.
