KHATAMI PRAYS IN MOSCOW MOSQUE MOSCOW, MARCH 13, RIA NOVOSTI - Iran's President Mohammad Khatami attended an evening prayer at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, after which he addressed the congregation to thank Russia's leaders for respect for all religions and denominations in the country. He appealed to Russian Muslims to join hands with people professing other religions. Muslims in multi-religious countries surely must preserve their culture and traditions--but also to work for their mother country to be prosperous and economically strong, said the president. Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, chairman of the Russian Muftiyat, thanked President Khatami for attending the prayer to give "huge and unforgettable impressions" to the congregation.
