ALEXANDER LUKASHENKO: THERE WON'T BE A YUGOSLAVIAN SCENARIO IN BELARUS MINSK, March 1, 2001. /RIA Novosti correspondent Olesya Luchaninova/. The Belarussian president Alexander Lukashenko declared that an end would be put to any interference in Belarus' internal affairs, especially before the forthcoming presidential elections slated for this autumn. According to a RIA Novosti correspondent, Lukashenko noted during his meeting with journalists that the West spared no money to finance the opposition in Belarus and supply it with office equipment. "They openly declare that they want a new Yugoslavia, but there won't be a Yugoslavian scenario in Belarus", Lukashenko said. In his words, it is the Belarussian people, and not intelligence services, who will elect the president. Lukashenko stressed that if anyone were exposed as a spy, he would be "arrested and imprisoned."
