GEORGIENS PRESIDENT TO THE RELATIONS WITH RUSSIA

Imedaschwili).  The Georgian State Department terminates its work on
the design of the new basic agreement between Russia and Georgien.
This said Georgiens president Eduard Shevardnadze before the press.

He expressed hope that " the Georgian-Russian relations " will
normalize itself after the signing of the present Treaty.  Today give
it in the Russian-Georgian relations some problems and " attraction
means ", which are connected particularly with the introduction of the
visa obligation.

The Russian page had to introduce the visa obligation on 5 December
2000, since Georgien constantly granted the Chechnian terrorist refuge
and furnished material and medical assistance.  The Russian State
Department stressed several times that the visa obligation is a
coercive measure.
