RUSSIA TO ASSIST DANISH NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS WORKING IN CHECHNYA MOSCOW, March 13, 2001. /From RIA Novosti correspondents Kristina Rodriguez and Yelena Glushakova/. Russia is going to lend assistance to Danish non-governmental organisations working in Chechnya, promised Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov at a press conference that followed Russian-Danish talks. According to Ivanov, he has reported the latest developments in the Chechen Republic to his Danish counterpart and stressed that Russia welcomes Danish non-governmental organisations' activities in Chechnya. We do have problems in Chechnya "and we make no secret of this fact," said the foreign minister. At the same time, the republic has lately become more positive about the idea that the conflict should be settled by political means, and this helps us realize the plans formulated by the Russian government, added Ivanov.
